7:21am - My Boss (Trish) wasn't in yesterday but emailed me from home saying I would have my review today.. So today will determine exactly how vigorously I will be searching for a new job.Well, last night I walked through the apartment and opened each and every cabinet, examined the closets and the apartment in general. I honestly believe if you look at the quantity of stuff we have moved in a measurement not of actual mass but of time it takes to move something.. we are 80% done moving already. True, the items left represent the most amount of actuall matter to be moved, but they take less time to move than an equivilant mass of boxes to be packed would. This last 3 days we are going to need to get every remaining loose item packed up, which shouldn't take long. Then all we need is some help moving the bed, entertainment center, TV, Leslie's desk, the white desk, and our plastic dresser. Then.. clean, clean, clean..
Well, Leslie hasn't found her ring yet. In all honesty I wish she had lost the wedding ring instead of the engagement ring. It would have been cheaper to replace. I'm just going to make a wild guess, but replacing the engagement part with a matching ring is probably going to cost $400 or more. Another reason I am glad I didn't spend $8,000 on a ring or something ridiculous like that.
It is strange how spoiled we become. I remember a time when a 486 was considered such a powerfull machine that the average person could never have one. Here I am with only my "Mars Server" to use as a workstation at home. It being 100 Mhz seems so slow. However, I have gotten used to the speed, after all I configured that thing to be lean so Linux runs very efficiently on it. However, the thing that bothers me is the monitor. The fact that it is 12" or that it is black & white doesn't bother me. The fact that I can only get 640x480 out of it is irritating. Moreso on Linux than on Windows because Unix applications were all designed to run with large screen resolutions. Some programs require extensive configuration to get them usable on 640x480. Other than that, I have gotten used to the machine now that I have been using it for 3 days straight. This machine's harddrive needs an upgrade something serious.
I have a plan about that too.. Leslie's workstation (Star) is all SCSI except fot the CDROM and CDRW. She never uses the ZIP drive. She needs more harddrive space since we burn CDs on her system. I need to get a SCSI card that is Linux compatible (I don't believe the AMD card she has will work) and then transfer her harddrive and the ZIP drive to Mars. Then I have those 3 CDROMs that are SCSI. Of course, Mars will need a bigger case too. Then we'll pick up a 4 or 6 GB IDE harddrive for Leslie.
1:11pm - I bidded on an 11-bay tower case on ebay a while ago. 6 of the Bays are external 5.25" The shipping would be $17, and my bid was $25. The auction only has hours to go, so I may get it. So, plus shipping it will cost around $40 but that is great compared to $120 or so in Fry's.
3:35pm - Well, I received my review.. I am thoroughly disgusted with it. I received $0 of a raise.. I am going to find a new job and quit. It is time to go home, so I will have to fill in the rest later.
8:48pm - Now that I home from work and also delivered some more boxes and looked at the house, I have some more time to write. As far as work is concerned... I am finding a new job and screw Citadel. That review was full of lies and misrepresentations of my work there. I suspect they are either trying to make me quit instead of having to cut our department (which they have been wanting to do anyway) or they are pissed about me confronting them with the illegal activities of them docking mere hours from salaried workers. It may take me 6 months or even a year to find a new job, but I am set on it now..
I was really impressed with the amount of progress on Mike's house. The brick is almost complete except for a place in the front. The sheetrock has come a long way. I think they only started today and it looks like they are about 45% complete. So the house will probably be completely bricked and sheetrocked by the end of this week. What a mess! Those bricklayers have made more mess than any single crew so far. I'm sure that will be fun to pick up.
Almost all the cabinets are empty here at the apartment. We have just about got everything moved. Just those big furniture pieces left. Oddly enough when we came in after getting home a few minutes ago it smelled like smoke in the house for some reason. The best I could make out, it was comming from the air conditioner. At least if the apartment burns down now there won't be as much lost since nearly all our possesions are gone. Just as long as Leslie, me, and Purrbox are okay.
