1:50pm - I went to Electronic Discount Sales today and saw something I couldn't pass up. They had a whole bunch of SCSI Harddrives in. They were 2.1 GB size with the old style ribbon cable connector on the back. They wanted $39.99 each. Some might say "Big deal" But I knew these would fit in my Sparcstation IPX and still be able to connect to the motherboard. So I bought one. I would have bought two, one for each Sparcstation, but I wanted to make certain it would even work first. I took it home and put it inside. It worked just fine. My Webserver, Sparky, now has 2.1 GB of storage space available internally. I was sort of surprised when I removed the 480 MB drive that was in there. It was a double-height drive. I don't remember it being so big. Anyway, so the new drive takes up half the space in there. I may go back and get another one for R2D2 before they are all gone. I have also bidded on several pieces of Sun hardware. If I get one of the SBUS SCSI cards I bid on, then I will have more storage room on the server because I'll be able to use all the bays in that SCSI tower I bought. I also bid on several mechanical mice and ethernet cards. If I don't find a decent deal on a Sparc 10 or a Sparc 5 at this comming Saturday Sale, then I am going to buy on one eBay. I am accumulating more and more Sun equipment but I am still running on the same old slow Sparc IPX units. While I was up there I noticed they had a new "Bargain Bin" with these nice PS/2 Mice. I am unsure who makes them, but the look like they might be logitech. Anyway, they have the little wheel in the middle and they were $7.99 a piece in brand-new packaging.. they had an entire crate of them. I bought 2, one for me and one for Leslie. My mouse has been giving me trouble lately. It acts like it is dirty sometimes, where I'll be moving it and the pointer will stop moving for some reason. But it isn't dirty because I keep those rollers really clean. I hope Leslie likes hers. If she doesn't, I still have her old mouse. I already hooked up her new one. I want to see if she even notices when she comes home.
6:25pm - Well, we went back to the store and I got another one of those harddrives. Now I am waiting on the installation to finish on R2D2. It took about an hour I think for Sparky to unpack all the files and finish the install. Leslie liked her mouse. At least I guess she liked it better than the one she had. Anyway... now R2D2 will have 4.2 GB of storage space available now. That makes it a decent fileserver. Whenever I manage to get that additional SCSI card for it, then I'll be able to really add the storage. With the recent addition of so many MP3 files I've really outgrown the available filespace on our server.
